Mindanao telecentre situation

Claire Buré is doing a research project about gender and telecentres in Mindanao. In one of her posts on ... by claire buré she talks about a telecentre that hasn’t had a phoneline for over a year and whose solar panel was stolen and used as a pigpen roof by a farmer.

Those weren’t the only problems the telecentre was facing. In a recent email exchange with Ms. Buré, she also mentioned that the telecentre leaders, once trained, leave the center to find better work. So this leaves the center without someone to run the place. I did suggest that maybe a training video can be made so that it’ll be easier to train more people.

It’s very sad to hear news like this. When I first posted about telecentres (or telcenters depending on where you’re from, I guess) I just posted about the existence of the projects. Now, at least, I know how some of them are really doing.
