Heal thyself

There was this spoof ad in Adbusters JAN/FEB 2005 that went like this:

Feeling overwhelmed? Anxious? Depressed?

Try Placebo – the pill that works without the poison.

I thought their take on it was pretty funny. They even cite medical journals and studies.

And then I come upon this article in Ode entitled The healing power of placebos. It goes on to say:

A sugar pill, a salt solution, a doctor in a white jacket—these all have the power to cure as long as the patient believes in their healing qualities. That seems impossible. So what does science say about the elusive placebo effect? And how can we use it to feel better?

So it doesn’t really matter if you take a red or blue pill? Is it all about belief?
